About the Irlam and Cadishead History Society
The Irlam and Cadishead History Society is dedicated to exploring, recording and preserving the rich history of our two communities.
From the development of the Manchester Ship Canal and local industries to the shops, schools, churches, public houses and people who shaped our area, there are countless stories worth discovering and sharing.
What We Do
The Society brings people together through illustrated talks, historical research, photographs, documents and special events.
Our activities include:
- Organising talks and presentations on local history and wider historical subjects.
- Collecting and preserving historical photographs and documents.
- Researching the people, buildings, businesses and industries of Irlam and Cadishead.
- Sharing historical information with the wider community.
- Encouraging people to contribute their own memories, photographs and family stories.
Preserving Our Local Heritage
An important part of our work is making historical material accessible to future generations.
We are developing an online archive containing articles, publications, photographs and research, including material compiled by local historians such as Cyril Wheaton.
As this collection grows, we hope it will become a valuable resource for residents, researchers, schools and anyone interested in the history of Irlam and Cadishead.
